Yankees Notes

Three items of note for the New York Yankees on the day of Game 5 of the 2009 World Series.

Aroldis Champan, Cuban defector visited Boston last weekend and is scheduled to attend game 6* of the World Series in The Bronx as a guest of the Yankees. This is his first meeting with the club as they begin their courtship of the 21-year old pitcher. Here's some more information on the pursuit. As the article says:

"But if you're looking for the front-runners in the Chapman sweepstakes, you know where to look. The Red Sox and Yankees are the usual suspects in any big-money free-agent negotiations, and this winter should be no different."

Also, while the club is clearly still focused on the 2009 season, here is a list of their top 10 prospects for 2010. The organization had expected to see more from Austin Jackson at this point in his career.

A lot of casual fans think all sports teams just rake in cash, which is completely untrue. Just about every owner in the history of professional sports and owning things got their money somewhere else (real estate, building ships, internet, family, casinos, hotels, etc.) and doesn't make money on the team. This season, it looks like the Yankees will break even and maybe even get into the black.

BONUS: 'Go Yankees' prank in Pennsylvania is not so funny according to the state highway authority.
